Take the helm and sail in paradise
Bareboat chartering, just as it sounds, is for guests who want to captain a boat themselves (qualifications required.) Charter guests are responsible for all aspects of running the yacht, including sailing, navigating, anchoring, provisioning, cooking, cleaning and, most importantly, having fun.
Is Bareboating For Me
If you have the experience, an adventurous spirit, and wish to try the real live-aboard lifestyle, then a bareboat charter is for you. This type of charter provides the utmost in freedom and privacy. Do what you want, when you want. The agenda is your own.
How Do I Know If I Am Qualified
At Dream Yacht Charter we prefer that the bareboat charter guest who will operate the boat have some previous experience on a boat of similar size and, in some cases, at least one competent crew member.
While a bareboat charter certificate is not usually mandatory, don’t take chances with yours and your crew’s safety. If you are new to chartering or an old hat, we highly recommend that you take the NauticEd Bareboat Sailing Series of Courses. The courses cover anchoring, navigation, maneuvering a large sailboat in a tight marina, and the finesse of bareboat chartering.
NauticEd also provides a free online electronic logbook and sailing resume or you can download our Sailing Resume form and email or fax it to your booking agent, and we will work with you through the process.
If you are still unsure of your sailing abilities, or simply want the knowledge of a local skipper, you can charter a bareboat and hire a professional captain at a daily rate and then continue the rest of your charter on your own when you feel comfortable. If you would rather not cook, you have the option to hire a chef and have all of your meals prepared for you.
Our Staff and Our Personalized Service
Our goal at Dream Yacht Charter is simple. We want to make your bareboat charter a pleasant and fun experience, whether you’re new to chartering or are an old hand. It all starts here at our website, and continues when you begin working with our booking consultants. The staff at Dream Yacht Charter–from our base managers, skippers and personal chefs, to dock hands– are all dedicated to personalized service.
Start by browsing our bareboat fleet listings for each destination. Fill out an Information Request form, and a booking consultant will contact you to discuss options, specific desires and your requirements, all with the goal of matching you with the perfect yacht. If you are unsure of where you’d like to cruise, browse the Destinations at the top of any page of our website for some ideas, and discuss the alternatives with your consultant.
Our Small, Intimate Bases.
Dream Yacht Charter bases are carefully selected for their small size and perfect location. Our base locations were chosen to be a little more removed from the main crowded cities or towns. This gives our guests the option of spending a quiet first or last night on their boat while taking advantage of the marina’s amenities.
Our Quality Yachts and Equipment
In addition to smaller bases featuring a high level of personal attention, we offer only the highest quality yachts at Dream Yacht Charter. We’ve partnered with the best shipyards in the world and take great care to choose yachts that provide sailing performance as well as great comfort and space. All of our yachts in the Caribbean, for example, are less than 4 years old. Our yachts come from such innovative yacht builders as Catana, Beneteau, Lagoon, Jeanneau, Fountaine Pajot and Dufour.
We own and operate the only fleet of Catana catamarans in the world. “Cruising World” magazine in 2008 named the Catana 50 “Best Cruising Multihull” in its annual rankings. Known for high performance and design, Catanas represent the gold standard for quality and performance in sailing catamarans.
Our Guarantee Includes Safety, Flexibility and Value
Base managers are responsible for giving you an overview of your cruising area, inspecting the yacht for safety, and familiarizing you with all aspects of your yacht, above and below the waterline. Before you leave the base, you will become familiar with:
- All of the safety equipment including: fire extinguishers, lifejackets, and first aid kit(s)
- Cooking and refrigeration systems
- The heads and showers
- Engine and regular check procedures
- The VHF radio system and proper mayday instructions
- All instruments, including the GPS
- All necessary charts and pilot books
- The halyards, winches, reefing lines and other rigging and controls
- The anchoring system(s)
- Dinghy and its engine
- All other systems particular to that vessel
Our base managers and staff want to make sure that you are comfortable with handling the boat. If you are not, they can arrange for the addition of a skipper (at a nominal fee) to assist you on a daily basis until you feel confident that you can manage the boat on your own.
All of our yachts meet the highest safety requirements, are very well maintained and undergo regular technical checks. Should a technical failure happen despite our highly professional maintenance, we commit ourselves to repairing the failure within 4 hours following your call to the base during working hours (8 am to 5 pm). If you lose more than 4 hours (during working hours) we will refund you one full day. If the repair takes more than 1 day, we will provide you with a similar boat or refund you on a pro rata basis. In case of emergency, you can rely on our hot line, at any time, 7 days a week.
